Graves, professeur \u00e0 l\u2019Union Coll\u00e8ge de New York, est embarrass\u00e9 d\u2019\u00eatre incapable de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 une question de ses \u00e9tudiants : <em>\u00ab\u00a0Quelle th\u00e9orie psychologique de la nature humaine est-elle la meilleure, puisqu\u2019elles contiennent toutes, selon Graves lui-m\u00eame, des \u00e9l\u00e9ments de v\u00e9rit\u00e9 ?\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>. Cet embarras l\u2019entraine \u00e0 consacrer les 35 ans qui suivent, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 sa mort, \u00e0 tenter de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette question. Ce faisant, il jette les bases d\u2019une th\u00e9orie que l\u2019on nomme aujourd\u2019hui \u00ab\u00a0spirale dynamique\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Selon Graves, la dynamique entre les questions existentielles et les connexions neuronales que l\u2019on peut observer chez une personne (niveau micro), op\u00e8re \u00e9galement au niveau des organisations et soci\u00e9t\u00e9s au sens large (niveau macro).<\/p>\n<p>Ainsi, la th\u00e9orie de Graves permet de \u00ab lire \u00bb non seulement l\u2019\u00e9volution et la maturation d\u2019une personne mais \u00e9galement toute l\u2019histoire et l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de l\u2019humanit\u00e9 comme une \u00ab\u00a0spirale dynamique\u00a0\u00bb avec deux axes qui interagissent en permanence : l\u2019axe de gauche repr\u00e9sente l\u2019environnement, le contexte, dans lequel la personne, l\u2019organisation ou la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 se trouve, ses conditions de vie, ses probl\u00e8mes existentiels. L\u2019axe de droite repr\u00e9sente le syst\u00e8me de valeurs profondes dans lequel la personne \u00e9volue ou qui pr\u00e9vaut dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 donn\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>La th\u00e9orie de Graves s\u2019inscrit dans une vision dynamique de la nature humaine et des collectivit\u00e9s ou communaut\u00e9s qui s\u2019adaptent en permanence et s\u2019ouvrent \u00e0 une complexit\u00e9 croissante.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Applications aux organisations<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prenez une organisation ou une entreprise et interrogez chacun de ses employ\u00e9s et managers quant \u00e0 ce qui est ou devrait \u00eatre le but ultime de l\u2019organisation.<br \/>\nChacune de ses r\u00e9ponses illustre en partie un syst\u00e8me de valeurs profondes et pour lequel une &lsquo;couleur&rsquo; tend \u00e0 dominer plus que les autres. Or, il est possible que la &lsquo;couleur&rsquo; qui domine chez un membre de cette organisation et la &lsquo;couleur&rsquo; qui domine dans l\u2019organisation diff\u00e8re, de m\u00eame que cette derni\u00e8re peut diff\u00e9rer de la &lsquo;couleur&rsquo; qui domine dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 dans son ensemble. Tout cela entra\u00eene ce que la th\u00e9orie nomme des &lsquo;dissonances&rsquo; qui vont in\u00e9vitablement provoquer des changements, soit dans le sens d\u2019un passage \u00e0 un nouveau syst\u00e8me de valeurs, int\u00e9grant le syst\u00e8me pr\u00e9c\u00e9dant ; soit en r\u00e9gressant, le plus souvent en l\u2019exacerbant, au syst\u00e8me de valeurs pr\u00e9c\u00e9dant&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Face \u00e0 l\u2019engouement actuel pour les nouvelles formes d\u2019organisation du travail qui privil\u00e9gient les principes d\u2019auto-direction, de respect authentique et de d\u00e9veloppement personnel des collaborateurs, la spirale dynamique offre donc aux managers &lsquo;lib\u00e9rateurs&rsquo; une grille d\u2019auto-analyse de soi et de l\u2019organisation qui permet d\u2019avancer correctement, au rythme ad\u00e9quat et dans la bonne direction.<\/p>\n<p>Vu que la spirale dynamique s\u2019applique \u00e9galement aux individus, elle permet aussi aux leaders ou managers de mieux comprendre comment ils fonctionnent et comment ils devraient fonctionner s\u2019ils veulent pouvoir \u00ab lib\u00e9rer \u00bb leur organisation. Le leader lib\u00e9rateur \/ jaune sait jouer sur toute la palette des couleurs, afin de mettre en place une culture (de travail) dans laquelle chacun peut s\u2019exprimer, mais jamais aux d\u00e9pens des autres ou du groupe dans son ensemble. C\u2019est ainsi que peuvent s\u2019expliquer les comportements en apparence paradoxaux de leaders \u00ab\u00a0lib\u00e9rateurs\u00a0\u00bb qui instaurent des cultures ouvertes, de dialogue et de bienveillance mais qui peuvent aussi prendre des d\u00e9cisions rapides, dures et non-consensuelles (en \u00e9cartant par exemple d\u2019autorit\u00e9 des personnes qui nuisent volontairement au groupe) s\u2019ils consid\u00e8rent que la situation le requiert.<\/p>\n<p>La spirale est donc l\u00e0 pour s\u2019en servir et disponibles pour tous. Mais, in\u00e9vitablement, les jaunes y seront naturellement plus sensibles. Si les lignes qui pr\u00e9c\u00e8dent vous parlent, c\u2019est donc que vous avez d\u00e9j\u00e0 pas mal de jaune en vous qui ne demande qu\u2019\u00e0 grandir.
